Come work on any project from one of Melanie’s classes, any Block of the Month from Budding Star or bring any project from home and set this time aside to get it done and receive help along the way. This is a piecing class, not a machine quilting class.

Piecing with Rita – Stripping, Piecing, and Techniques
With Rita $25 for 1 session, or $65 for 3 sessions

Formerly Stripping with Rita. Work on a pattern designed for 2-1/2 inch strips in a quilting-bee environment. Or work on any project started in one of Rita’s other classes, either current or past. Get help and guidance in interpreting patterns, cutting techniques, and construction.
Note: There will not be a class in April. Classes will resume in May.
Come let’s truly FINISH your quit. Sew your binding onto the front of your quilt before class and in class hand stitch it to the back. Learn tricks for going faster and creating perfectly invisible stitches. Class will include a big surprise and free gift. We will also discuss signing your quilt. It will be a fun day of stitching together.

A sewing machine, clean and in good working order, is required for all machine piecing/quilting classes.
Create a beautiful wall-hanging and learn a wonderful new technique. No fusible, just simple free cutting with scissors and rotary cutter. Supply list differs depending on which project you want to do. Book: Accidental Landscapes or Happy Villages by Karen Eckmeier (required).

Love those Bali Batiks? Have a Jelly Roll you need to use? Looking for a new ‘twist’ in bag making? You can satisfy all the above in the new Bali Clothesline Bag Class. Using strips of fabric, thin cotton clothesline, thread and your machine, ‘coil’ up a sturdy and durable bag that will be the envy of your friends! A good zigzag stitch is required on your machine.
This beginning quilt project is great for those who have done some piecing and those who are truly novice. You will learn techniques, build confidence and be ready to try a wide variety of quilt patterns on your own. The sample and photos of student versions will be at the shop and on the website. Come alone or bring a friend—you’ll improve your skills in a fun, friendly atmosphere.
Make any of our fusible appliqué kits: Daybreak, Meadow, or one of several new McKenna Ryan patterns from Home Tweet Home. Or bring your own fusible project. You’ll learn cutting and fusible techniques. BSQ kits include pre-printed patterns ready to apply to one side of the fusible web.
Broderie Perse is the technique of cutting motifs from one fabric and appliquéing them onto other fabric. Using fusible, learn how to decorate tee-shirts, sweatshirts, pillowcases, dish towels, cotton clothing, hats, even quilts! Pick a fabric you love that has medium or large-scale motifs to cut out. You’ll be surprised at the result. Plain tee-shirts are available from Michael’s, from Hanes or Jockey online, or in other stores. 100% cotton items preferred.
Cold weather is coming and if you have not made a rag quilt, this is the time. Come learn the basics and get started in class 1 or come again to finish up. Remember that when this quilt top is done, the whole quilt is done! Not sure how a rag quilt works? Come to one session to let me get you going or come and work with us each month.

Designing Pieced Blocks

Laptop desirable, but not required. Course will be taught on a wide-screen TV. Not sure whether designing quilts in EQ is your thing? Come and see it in action. Learn the basics of EQ software: menus, tools, libraries, how to design a block from scratch and create quilts, import fabrics, print patterns, and much more.

This session will focus on layers, basics of appliqué design, how to create appliqué blocks and motifs, how to overlay appliqué motifs onto pieced blocks, and how to add quilting motifs to your quilt.
Come and learn to make one or more of Brenda Henning’s wonderful Mariner’s Compass blocks. This paper piecing technique is easy, and Rita makes it even easier by printing the patterns and background template for you. Choose your own fabrics. Mariner’s Compass: Reach for the Stars required. For class, you will be able to choose from three different blocks: beginner, intermediate and snowflake (advanced).
Mom and Me

Bring Mom or Grandmom to class and make a log cabin quilt top. A great gift to create for a loved one.
Maintaining your sewing machine in good working order can improve the quality of your piecing and quilting experience AND save you money. Bring in your machine and the manual for it and learn the proper way to clean your machine, how to lubricate it (if required). We’ll also discuss threads and needles: what thread works best with what needle, what thread tension is about. We’ll also try to answer questions you may have about your machine. WHEN YOU REGISTER, PLEASE INDICATE THE MAKE AND MODEL OF YOUR SEWING MACHINE.
